This week emphasizes persevering through life’s storms while clinging to God who is ever faithful. Believers draw strength from the promise that He will guide us through difficulties just as He guides eagles through tempests. The musical selections encourage us to trust in God’s rainbow promises during trials, maintain perspective and hope despite disappointments, and persist in love and service even when faced with challenges. In addition to the featured song, today I included a bonus song. Both songs relate to the faithful, persevering love God has for us which provides a model and foundation for us to live, as we love and persevere.

Love is more than a feeling. It is a choice to give of yourself for the benefit of others. We learn this from God, who has poured out his love on us through Jesus.

Learn from wilderness trials for through them God lovingly breaks you, guides you, and builds you up so you rely on him for what he has next in his glorious plan.

Ever Closer Episode 228: Reflection for Week 38

When you face difficulty, keep relying on God by faith. He will lovingly sustain you and deliver you. Through the fire of the trial he will forge your character to become more like Jesus.

Our scripture focus this week is from Romans 5:3-5, “Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Here are three questions to consider:

1. “Bow of Light” uses the rainbow as a reminder that God helps us through life’s trials. Reflect on a time when perseverance in serving others felt particularly difficult. How did God sustain you? What promise or truth from Scripture became your “rainbow” during that season? How might remembering this encourage your current service?

2. “Heights of His Presence” symbolizes God’s guiding us through life’s storms as if we are eagles. How might gaining God’s higher perspective change how you view difficult people or challenging service opportunities? What spiritual practice helps you rise above immediate frustrations to see the eternal significance of serving others?

3. “Love Is” reminds us that love is more than a feeling—it’s a choice to give of yourself for others’ benefit. When serving becomes routine or unappreciated, what practices help you choose love anyway? How does recognizing God’s persevering love toward you (even when you were unresponsive) strengthen your commitment to persevere in serving others?
