Ever Closer Episode 180: Reflection for Week 30

Love endures and seeks the best for others even if it comes at a personal cost. That is how God loves us and how we should love others by his grace and power. Our scripture focus this week is a declaration from Jesus found in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Here are three thoughts for reflection:

1. Jesus defined the greatest love as laying down one’s life for friends. While physical martyrdom may not be required, what “deaths to self” is God calling you to embrace in your relationships? How might these sacrifices actually lead to greater joy for them and you?

2. Review your closest relationships. Where do you tend to prioritize your own needs, comfort, or recognition above others? Ask God to show you one specific relationship where you can practice “letting Jesus live in you” by putting the other person first.

3. Whether married or single, how can you intentionally become more united with family or other believers in Christ-centered community this week? What group-centered attitude might you need to adopt?
