People used to believe that the sun revolved around the earth. It seemed to be that way since there was a sunrise and sunset each day with night in between. But the truth is that the earth revolves around the sun. Understanding and accepting that opened the door to discoveries in meteorology, oceanography, astronomy, and has even enabled space travel.
Similarly understanding and accepting realities about God enrich your life beyond measure. God is everlasting. He always was and always will be. He created and sustains the universe (Colossians 1:15-17; John 1:1-4). Everything revolves around him, rather than around you or me. Here is the foundational truth I hope sinks deep into your heart and spreads to every aspect of your life. God loves you. Even though by default you and everyone else tend to reject him in favor living life on your own, he still loves you unconditionally because love is not just an action for God. He is love (Romans 3:23, 6:23-24; 1 John 4:8). That’s his core character. “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). When you understand and accept God’s love it changes everything. You are no longer destined to die from your wrongdoing. God’s love saves you through Jesus. God adopts you as his child, he sustains and delivers you through every difficulty you face in this fallen world of broken people, he heals you, he transforms you to become like Jesus, and he gives you his abundant life now and forever (John 1:12-13; Romans 8:28-29).
God graciously meets you where you are today, but he loves you too much to leave you there. He is calling you closer to himself. By faith confess any wrongdoing, then trust and obey him (1 John 1:9). When you agree with God and do the next thing he impresses on you, he reveals more of his glorious self. Revolve around him and he shares with you his love, his truth, his goodness, and his plan. He faithfully provides for you and protects you through anything that arises. Nothing could be better than knowing and loving God. Agree with him and grow in him today (John 15:1-8, 17:3).
The apostle Paul encouraged believers regarding God’s faithful love, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?…No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:35, 37-39).
