I live in a small, rural town with a university. One thing that sets the school apart is its emphasis on learning by doing. I try to follow that same model with the high school students I teach. I show them how to do something, I give them a chance to do it themselves, then I encourage them to teach someone else. This cycle of seeing, doing, and teaching embeds the seed of learning deep enough to germinate, take root, grow, and thrive. It’s a joy to observe student’s take what they have learned and pass it on to help others learn. You may be out of school, but hopefully you are still learning. We are all students of life. In fact, I’m convinced that God has given you valuable experiences and wisdom not only to teach you, but for you to share with others.
Go and Make a Difference
Here are some of the amazing benefits of sharing the truth God has enabled you to learn.
- Fellowship If you have come to trust Jesus as your savior, sharing truth and wisdom deepens your relationship with him. It’s a way of joyfully expressing your love for him and others. He promises to be present with you in the blessed venture of going and teaching others to follow him (Matthew 28:18-20). If you haven’t trusted Jesus as your savior, you can today. Recognize that you are lost without him. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Confess any wrongdoing and receive his forgiveness (1 John 1:9). Ask him how to live rightly and rely on him to help you do what he shows you. Then share the joy and peace of new life in Jesus with others (Romans 10:9-15).
- Enrichment The truth you have come to know can benefit others. Not only that, it has a multiplication effect as they share what they received from you and pass it on to others.
- Deeper Learning The process of sharing truth with others, makes it even more meaningful to you. Having to figure out how to best communicate, articulate, and impart what you have learned to a a specific person in a unique life circumstance reinforces what you know by helping you meditate on it in fresh ways.
- Focus Jesus told his followers to go and help others find and follow him (Matthew 28:18-20). Whatever your vocation may be, this is your actual mission. Use the time, talents, and treasure God has entrusted you to invest in seeking and saving the lost by proclaiming the truth, teaching those who listen, and training those who respond. Look for gateway moments where God’s love and power are breaking through into people’s lives and join with him to represent his hands, his feet, his voice in those kingdom moments.
- Honor God is honored when like a branch abiding in the vine we draw our life from him and bear the fruit of sharing that life with others (John 15:1-8). By God’s grace and power let your thoughts, words, and actions reflect the magnificence of the one and only Almighty God, for everyone to see (Matthew 5:14-16).
In the Bible, God told the prophet Isaiah that his word never returns void—it always accomplishes his purpose (Isaiah 55:10-11). So share his truth with people whenever the Holy Spirit prompts you. Make it one of the rhythms of your grace walk with Jesus: Sing God’s praises, Study his word, Share his truth, Serve all people, Stand in the gap to intercede, and Stay dependent on God.
Conclusion
You can easily fill your life with many activities. But what are the best activities? I think the greatest activities are those which transform your life, benefit others, and bring glory to God. Being involved in God’s ministry of reconciliation, drawing lost people to himself, does that. So go in God’s grace and power. Be attentive to the opportunities he opens up. Pass on the truth you are learning to others and experience the wonderful things God does in your life and theirs.
