Have you been relying on God? If not I encourage you to stay dependent on him. For his power is made perfect in your weakness. Stay focused on growing. For you will need strength to face the future. God wants to draw you close so you can experience all that he wants to do in you, for you, and through you for others. “Draw near to him and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8). I realize in your head you may acknowledge God and know a few things about him, but what if this year you really grew to know him personally.

What if he became your best friend, not to replace your other relationships, but to make them even better. What if you were to find your greatest pleasure in pleasing God? What if you were to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6)?

I read My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers for the first time when I was 19 and have re-read it a few times since. It’s always been an encouragement to me and has drawn me closer to God. The daily selections are short, but meaningful. You might consider reading it yourself if you haven’t yet.

As you look to the future, don’t be anxious. Instead look to the one who holds the future and let him change you and care for you. Then you can embrace each day in Christ with enthusiasm, confidence, and love overflowing for others. That’s what it means to fly sure. God is the wind beneath your wings. Soar with him.
