Right now we’re crawling in bumper to bumper traffic on interstate highway I-5 on the way to San Diego for my niece’s wedding.

Sometimes life feels like traveling a highway (remember the song in Pixar’s Cars? I haven’t seen Cars 3 yet). Sometimes we drive so fast we miss important details. Or things come at us so quickly or unexpected obstacles force a change in our course so rapidly it’s hard to process it all.

Other times we come to an abrupt halt like stand still traffic when it feels like nothing is happening or changing–as if progress takes a back seat to stagnation.

Both situations can be stressful, disappointing, frustrating, and wearisome. What is helpful for me is letting God take the wheel by faith and and trying to see the journey through his eyes. It makes all the difference. When I do he gives me the humility to confess my faults and seek forgiveness, the peace to accept what I cannot change, the wisdom and courage to change what I can and should, the perseverance and strength to withstand difficulty, and the perspective to perceive the positive and remain hopeful and thankful.

When I let God drive, not only do I reach an awesome destination but the journey along the way is the best road trip it can ever be. 🚘
