Note: This blog entry is written to young women, but young men might get something out of it also.

Do you feel like you are at a crossroad in life? You need to see clearly as you proceed. I am convinced that drawing close to God is the absolute best way to do that. But you may be bombarded with other relationships which could distract you from that. I know it can be a struggle. I have two teenage daughters. I have an adopted teenage sister and two other adopted sisters who used to be teenagers. I also have six nieces in their teens. But don’t settle for less than God has for you. Spread your wings and fly.

Like many teens in school you may be focused on passing your classes, meeting people, having fun, and finding a job. Those are all good things. Along the way, just be sure to guard your heart. The desire to feel special and wanted, to love and be loved, to feel secure and content, to seek adventure, to have a future and a hope aren’t found in various boyfriends or any other pursuit. Don’t let anything sidetrack you from the premiere thing–loving God. Who you hang out with and what you do should be moving you closer to God and not farther. He is the one I have humbly been trying to show you. Pointing you toward cultivating a relationship with him is the ultimate gift I can offer.

I just came across a book today that could be helpful. Really. It was about an hour ago. I actually was going to share with you a book I just finished writing, but this one seems more relevant right now. I haven’t read the book yet, but I skimmed it. The title is funky, but the idea behind it is germane. If I was able to sign the electronic book for you I’d write, “Jesus is the greatest wind beneath your wings. Learn to fly with him. I pray he becomes your closest friend and dearest love. Only then will you experience the abundant life your heart longs for now and forever.”

If you are interested I hope you get a chance to read the book. If not, no problem. Any time you spend growing with God is vital and well worth it. Let me know what thoughts or questions you have.

P.S. Here’s an intro to the book from the publisher: “Kimberly Powers knows that at the core of every young woman’s heart is a longing to be truly, madly, deeply loved. And that’s what’s so compelling about the Bella / Edward story—the fantasy of a hero who is eternally attracted, fiercely protective, and passionately committed. Powers taps into this, using the vampire allusion to help girls explore what it is about the story that has captured their hearts. Weaving vampire lore with biblical truths and real-life stories, she helps girls move beyond the fantasy to discovery of the true Lover of their soul.
