So today’s the big game. Are you planning to watch the Super Bowl? It’s incredible how many people do. I enjoy watching football when I get a chance. This year the all American sport is played by very American sounding teams–the Patriots and the Eagles. I think a big attraction of this championship game each year is people getting together to share the experience and share each other’s company. It’s fun.

I’ll be rooting for the Eagles. They’ve had a great season and I hope they play well today. Plus I like eagles. Last summer while hiking at Lopez Lake I saw two bald eagles only about thirty yards away. They are so beautiful and majestic. God gives us animals, people, and all of creation to share with us part of himself and teach us various attributes of his character. He uses nature to reveal his nature.

When I think of eagles I am reminded of a scripture that might be an encouragement to you. It is from Isaiah chapter 40 which declares how great God is and what a comfort he is to those who hope in him. The ending verses state,

“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:28-31).

From day to day, do you place your hope in God or something/someone else? God is your Abba Father, your refuge, your rock, your good shepherd, and your wisest way. He’s given you wings to soar, the strength to fly, and the wind to carry you. I’m praying that you trust and obey him as you grow in love for him. Set your hope in him by reading his word, talking and listening to him, meeting with other Christians, serving people, and sharing what you are learning through it all.

Life can be hard, but God is good all the time. He not only sees us through, but those who hope in him he transforms into better people in the process. Wow. No matter how the big game turns out my thoughts can’t help but go to our big God. There are no losers with Christ. I want to soar for him and “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever” (Psalm 136).

P.S. This is an uplifting song by Bethel Church which talks about this. You might want to listen to it.
