Sharing Your Testimony

A Tribute to God’s Goodness

After Jesus was resurrected he gave his followers power to witness of him (Acts 1:8, Matt. 28:18-20). In fact, anyone who is in Christ is a new creation, entrusted by God with the ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:17-21). As God sent Jesus, he is sending us to help others know him (John 17:18). We are set apart in this world to declare God’s praises and show how great he truly is (1 Peter 2:9). Don’t let the devil discourage you from shining for Jesus. From prison the apostle Paul wrote, “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather join with me in the suffering of the gospel by the power of God (1 Timothy 1:7-8).

The apostle John put it this way, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete” (1 John 1:1-4).

Recognizing how good God is leads people to repentance (Romans 2:4). Like John would you joyfully share what God has done in your life with others? An easy way to start is to write down answers to some basic questions:

  • What was your life like before meeting Jesus?
  • How did you come to trust Jesus as your Savior?
  • What difference has knowing Jesus made?
  • What is a recent lesson that you have learned from God?
  • What is a verse from the Bible that has been meaningful to you and why?
  • Then when the Holy Spirit opens an opportunity you will be prepared to testify of his goodness.
